What kinds of concerns should I report?
The following is a non-exhaustive list of what you should report:
- Any known or suspected child abuse and neglect
- Misconduct between program participants
- Safety policy violations by program participants, staff, or volunteers
- Bullying
- Hazing
- Harassment
- Substance Use/Abuse
- Mental health concerns
- Staff or volunteers communicating with program participants 1:1 on social media platform
- Staff or volunteers messaging program participants excessively, late at night, and/or not in relation to USY programming.
- Staff or volunteers transporting program participants without another adult present
If you are ever unsure of whether or not to report, it is always best to err on the side of caution and make a report. A bad gut feeling is enough to make a report and USCJ/USY will take the report seriously.
In short - when in doubt, report up and if you see something, say something.
